Smalls SAL 2015 - October Check-In

Since I've been busy "organizing," I haven't done as much stitching as I would like. I have several projects underway but have only managed to complete one in time for the October Check-in. It is a Prairie Schooler Design from Book No. 164 titled "October" that was stitched with the called for colors of DMC and finished as a scissors fob.

Maybe the other projects will get finished in time for November's Check In! It's not too late to join the Smalls SAL for 2015 and Heather will soon be taking sign-ups for the 2016 Smalls SAL. It's a great way to stay motivated to complete some small projects without the stress of a major deadline to dampen your stitching pleasure. Check out what others have stitched in October here.

"Ugly Scissors" Fob

Things have been a bit hectic lately, or maybe I should say more hectic than usual. I thought by this point in my life, I would have more free time and life would be less frenetic. Wrong, wrong, wrong! I had planned to add this chart 2 weeks ago and where has the time gone!? This is the chart for the scissor fob pictured in my last post. I've included a different back that can be substituted for the initials that I used.

And...

Charlene kindly shared photos of her projects using three of my charts, Mermaid Scissors FobSeahorse Fob and Life is Too Short for Ugly Scissors. Thanks, Charlene for letting me post them here!

No ugly scissors in the lot! Beautiful stitching and finishing to complement the beautiful scissors!

2015 Smalls SAL - September

I decided I needed to get more active in the online stitching community again so I joined the 2015 Smalls SAL hosted by Heather of Stitching Lotus - a little late in the year to get started but it's open to new participants all year so I decided to join the fun. Hoping it will help keep me focused on stitching and blogging more. So, drum roll, please....here is my first check in for the SAL - September!

Of course my small of choice is a scissor fob. I knew what I wanted the fob to say but in order to fit it in I had to ...sigh... stitch over one....again. There are only two things I like about stitching over one, getting done with it and the end result which makes the effort worthwhile.

I stitched my initials on the backside using my Stork Scissors Alphabet, yet again, stitched over one so it would fit the space. I used 25ct Potato Lugana which is great to stitch on, not so great for finishing something so small and the stork scissors and needle colors don't show up very well. Live and learn!

Next is the Neon Cats scissors fob based on a knitting pattern of repeating cats that I saw online. I had to make some changes to make it work for me but I was pleased with the result and I loved the bright neon colored floss which was unexpectedly wonderful to stitch with. Stitched on the same 25ct Potato Lugana except this one is stitched over two threads! Yay!

Now I just have to figure out which pair of scissors looks best with it - any suggestions?

Seahorse Scissor Fob/Back of Mermaid Fob

I used this design for the back of the Mermaid fob but it could easily be used for a quick-stitch scissors fob on its own. (The alphabet I used is a favorite of mine, but it is no longer available to download from the publisher's website.)

Mermaid Scissor Fob

My friend Beth is an amazing stitcher. I cannot begin to count all the gorgeous Mirabilia designs she has stitched since I've known her. I don't know how she finds the time and perseverance to stitch those beautiful, detailed and huge designs! (Anything 80 x 80 falls in the large category, 100 x 100 or more is in the huge range as far as I'm concerned!) As soon as I saw her Mirabilia mermaids framed and hung, I decided I would like to make a mermaid fob for her. It's funny, she doesn't hesitate to tackle those large projects but is hesitant to stitch something small like a scissor fob - that's okay, though, because that's where I come in! I finished the chart back in November but didn't get to stitch it until the end of March. I managed to work in all the things I like the least about cross stitch - a few partial stitches (only 4), one over one stitches (the seahorses), beads and back stitching. Sigh......you would think I would learn to leave those things out!

Humming Along Scissors Fob

Something really quick to stitch and although it is very simple, I have always really liked it. I meant to post it last summer but never managed to get that done.

Scissors Fob Photos from Berit

I'm sooo proud of Berit - she did such a great job on this, her first, scissor fob!! I love the way she changed the colors to match the scissors. Berit is a new stitcher so this is a special accomplishment for her - her first completely finished project. We all know there is a big difference in stitching and stitching and finishing (I am one of the worst about this!) Thanks, Berit, for Stitching and Sharing! I'm looking forward to seeing more great finishes to come!

I'm Soooo Excited!!!

The first entry for the Cheetah Needlework Set Drawing has arrived and it's a beauty!! Candace S. did an outstanding job on the whole set - beautifully stitched, expertly finished and very artistically embellished! Look at those details she added on the spine of the needle case! Thanks so much, Candace, for making my simple design look like a million bucks!!

New Friendship Heart Scissors Fob

Here is the smaller version of yesterday's chart - this one should work better for a scissor fob or floss tag.

Needlework Set Photos from Estela

Estela stitched all four pieces of the Busy Bees Needlework Set and sent pictures for me to post here. I'm so glad she liked the charts enough to stitch the whole set! Great job, Estela! Thanks so much for taking the time to Stitch and Share!

Roberta's Flowers Fob Photo from Cathy B

Cathy B sent pictures of the Roberta's Flowers Scissors Fob that she stitched for Jill. As always, Cathy did an excellent job on the stitching and finishing! Thanks Cathy for stitching the chart up and for sharing the photos - it is so nice to see the fob being modeled by the Gingher scissors that inspired its design! Cathy and Jill both have pictures on their blogs as well - I hope you will visit them. You have probably already been to their blogs, but if you haven't, you are in for a real treat! They always have lots of stitching to see.

Photos from Theresa

The next photos I received came from Theresa. (Check out her other projects on her blog.) She stitched the Roberta's Cats scissors fob but finished it as a floss tag. It turned out so cute - I just love it! It is so fun to see all the different finishes of the charts - each one is unique! Great job, Theresa! Thanks for sharing the photos!

Photo from Myra

Well as usual I'm running behind! Several stitchers have sent photos of their finishes and I haven't had much time to get things posted soooo.....today is catch up day!

Myra sent a photo of her first scissors fob that she has ever made and I feel very honored that she chose one of my designs, Roberta's Pups, for the project! She did a fabulous job and I would never guess it was her first one - look at that cording! I'm so glad that she is enjoying cross stitching again and I hope you will check out her projects on her blog. Thanks so much, Myra, for sharing your fob picture and I hope to see more of your projects soon!

Cheetah/Leopard Needlework Set - Scissors Fob

A new Cheetah/Leopard Scissors Fob to match the other pieces in the needlework set, slightly different than the first one.

Missing Bunnies Found!

Well, it seems there were some bunnies missing in action! I had the wrong link for the Roberta's Bunnies Scissors Fob Front so the back chart was linked twice. It is now fixed (I made sure!!) and I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks so much to Christa from France for letting me know!!! Christa, please email me at: xstch crzy 2 @ yahoo . com (without the spaces, of course.) so I can thank you personally. I'm adding the correct link to this post, also, to make it easier for those who have already tried downloading the first one.

Roberta's Flowers Scissors Fobs and Biscornus

The Roberta's Flowers Scissors Fobs and Biscornus close out the Roberta series. All of these charts can easily be adapted to work with the other Gingher Designers Series Scissors by just changing the colors to match the particular scissors you wish. I keep thinking I will work up a color chart for each pair (it's on my "To Do" list!)....well, one of these days....! I would love to see what you come up with!
